CRC's competitive program aims to provide equitable, well-managed, and meaningful racing opportunities for rowers, while fostering a supportive team culture that values continuous skill development; accountability to your teammates & coaches; and enjoyment of the sport.
Rowers must meet baseline skill requirements to be eligible for CRC's competitive program and are expected to complete a minimum full season of rowing after Learn-to-Row season before eligible for competitive squad.
Rowers wishing to join CRC's competitive program for the first time should speak with CRC Head Coach Tom Kowal to assess readiness.
Rowers in CRC's competitive program commit to attending practices consistently. Inconsistent attendance may affect eligibility for regattas and/or for the competitive program.
To ensure that all rowers who are committed to CRC competitive program have an opportunity to compete, CRC will designate regattas as Novice or Experienced. If more rowers want to compete in a regatta than we have boats to put them in, these designations will be used to determine which rowers are boated.
Note: Head of the Charles is not a CRC-sanctioned regatta and there is no club or coaching support provided for this regatta. Rowers interested in HOCR must get Head Coach sign off and Board approval if requesting to use club equipment (CRC boats must be transported on an insured, approved trailer).
CRC's coaching team has the final decision about all competition related matters for regattas, such as which team members will race, which boats they will race in, and the line-ups for boats.
If you are boated for a regatta, you are responsible for the racing fee (average: $50-70 per regatta, more if competing in more than one race). If you become unable to race after being seated:
Notify a coach immediately. Coaches will attempt to fill the seat.
You will not receive a refund for your racing fee, even if the seat is filled.
If the coach is unable to fill the boat, and CRC is unable to cancel the registration, you are responsible for the full registration fee for your boat (i.e., my fee + the fees for boatmates who have paid but were unable to race due to my absence).
You will not be permitted to compete in regattas with CRC if you are behind on practice fees or regatta fees.
The above guidelines are subject to change by the CRC Board as needed. Changes will be communicated to club members as timely as possible.
